It was a very calm, purposeful and interesting day. Very helpful to liaise with others and understand roles of governing bodies, websites and various MLT strategies. The leaders of the course were very friendly, relatable and it was a very interactive and open and safe environment. I felt energised as a result of the content and look forward to trying out new techniques.

Suitable for subject or phase leaders with two or more years of successful classroom teaching, this practical programme is a great introduction to leadership. It aligns with the corresponding NPQ domains so that, when completed, leaders can then elect to deepen their knowledge of educational research in a longer, complementary NPQ.

In this programme, participants will develop the leadership skills and knowledge and have the opportunity to share day-to-day experiences with other participants and experienced leaders.

A range of themes will be covered, including:

  • School context and history
  • What does your website say?
  • Role of the Governing Board
  • What is your remit & who are your team?
  • Cultural capital, what does it mean in your context?
  • What makes for a high quality inclusive, diverse & anti-racist curriculum?
  • Developing skills in carrying out lesson visits
  • Pupils’ attitude & behaviour; promoting positive approaches
  • Leading in a church school; what makes it different & distinctive?
  • How to have a ‘difficult’ conversation
  • Giving effective feedback
  • Effective action planning & evaluating impact
  • Engaging the wider community in school improvement
  • Preparing for inspection
  • Understanding what a ‘deep dive’ might look like
  • Planning your next steps
